Port De Sóller
Yesterday afternoon, Heather, Elyanna, Clara and I decided to take a trip to Sóller. It's a small town on the northwest part of the island.
We packed up our things and hopped in the car for the half hour drive to Sóller. To get there, you have to drive through a long tunnel in the mountain; having lived in Texas all my life, that was a new experience for me.
The little town of Sóller is filled with quaint little streets and beautiful views of the mountains. We stopped in an ice cream shop to get some of the orange ice cream that Sóller is famous for, but many other people had already done the same, and it was all gone. I had mandarin ice cream instead. It was a close second.
Walking into the plaza in the center of town, your eyes are immediately drawn to the cathedral. It's breathtaking. We sat and admired the church as we ate our ice cream.
There's a wooden train that goes through Sóller, but unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of it. The train goes from Palma to Sóller, and it's on my list of things to do here, so expect a post about it soon!
After wandering around the little town, se drove to the Port de Sóller. It's unique in that it's hidden in the mountains. The port is small, but very pretty. Boats fill the water, and there are buildings built upon the mountainside. We wandered around for a bit and eventually sat at an outdoor table to grab a drink. I tried shandy for the first time and was impressed. It's really good.
After our excursion to Sóller was through, we headed to Deià, a little town down the coast. We drove through the mountains, getting to see a beautiful sunset over the sea on the way. I didn't get any pictures of that either. It's hard to remember to take pictures sometimes; I'm too busy living in the moment.
We got to Deià at dusk and walked into town for a drink at a really cute little bar. Stairs go up the side of the stone building to the patio up top. The patio has a canopy of plants covering the top, and vines run down the sides of the building as well. The tables are made from vintage sewing machine stands, and inside is a quaint little bar.
I had una caña this time. That's just a draft beer. We shared a little bowl of pub mix and enjoyed the evening breeze up on the patio. It was a good Saturday night.
I'll be writing soon about the train to Sóller, so stay tuned for a post on that! Thanks for reading!
